Time Square Light Ball and Luxeon Rebel LED

Leveraging the New Years bonanza, and millions of viewers, Philips had unveiled a supped up New Years ball in Times Square in 2008. It’s composed of 32,256 Philips Luxeon Rebel LEDs, measures 12-feet wide and weighs 11,875 pounds. It produces over 10 million different colors and consumes about 20% less energy than 2007’s celebratory ball of light.

LUXEON Rebel is the smallest surface mountable power LED available today. With the industry's best lumens per package, highest light density (lumens per mm2), and the highest packing density, LUXEON Rebel is ideal for both space-constrained and conventional solid-state lighting applications.
LUXEON Rebel offers:
150°C Junction Temperature
Industry leading lumen performance, > 80 lumens in cool white at 350mA
350mA - 1000mA drive current
High efficacy, flux density andlumens per package
Industry best moisture sensitivity level - JEDEC Level 1 unlimited floor life no need for reconditioning
Lead-free reflow solder JEDEC 020c compatible
RoHS Compliant
Autoclave compliant - JESD22 A-102
Industry best lumen maintenance - 50,000 hours life at 700 mA with 70% lumen maintenance
