My handphones

Handphone has changed the life of the human beings, and that is one of the most important invention in the 20 Century, like LED which I will talk about it in another topic.

I started using handphone in 1991 that was the Motolora Micro T.A.C. At that time you did not need to go to the phone shop for shopping instead the sales lady would come to you office, bring you the phone, get it paid by cash or Credit card and teach you how to use the phone.

Nowadays, the world has changed as the profit margin is not as high as those days, I remember that I spent HKD14,300 for the Morolora and joined the monthly plan of HKD400 dollar for 100 minutes... That was expensive!

The favouite brand is Nokia and I could see that Nokia would be the rising star once I saw the banana shaped 6110 model, which was having innovative design and great user-friendiness software.

I have iPhone first gerneratioon 4G version , there is some limitation besides the new feature that no Nokia phone can not offer. But Still Nokia is my favourite choice, I am waiting for the N96!
You know waht was Nokia original business?
Lumbering and export to the former USSR, but to to break down of the Russian empireiinto smaller countries, Nokia's CEO in one day came out with a proposal for changing the whole company business direction from Lumbering to Communications.... and since then ...with sweat and a lot of new idea and effort plus their good manufacturability... now Nokia has been at the Top 1 handphone supplier position for the past ten years!

The story I learned from this is that we have to dare to change with comprehensive survey and planning for next future or the company will fall if they can not maintain the expected profit of the share holder!! But who has the gut to take the Change?
PS
I am using N95 now and I am looking for N96! I like Nokia as they are great phone, they have a very special reliability in building the phone. They use the latest technology in making their phone. For example, they put underfill material under every Flip Chip ICs, that incur higher manufacturing cost, but that will help to build a solid phone for withstanding vibration and the Underfill is a very good conductor for heat energy generated by the Hi speed Chips....

Can Do Spirit of HK

"Can Do"

A Chinese-derived expression much admired by Japanese business executives is Juunansei, (a kanji or "borrowed character") which translates as flexibility, or more broadly in English as a "can do" approach to negotiating and operating. A recently-published Japanese think-tank analysis of Hong Kong's attractiveness as a business centre identified this "can do" element as a vital ingredient.

It's also an expression that is translating into practical business success for Japanese firms arriving in Hong Kong. There's no coincidence that these companies have each adopted a strategic approach to entering the Chinese mainland – and for this purpose using Hong Kong as a key to unlocking opportunities, often in conjunction with the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone across the boundary.........

We have been using this slogan of “Can Do” spirit since 2000, we product involving R&D, Design, manufacturing and servicing in the Semiconductor assembly equipment. This product profilio lies from low end Aluminum wedge bonder of USD25,000.00, typical mid level die bonder for LEDs of USD150,000.00 to a Camera Module assembly in line system of USD1,200,000.00 high value product. Well, it is a complex world of competitivess, competition, technology benchmarking, local copy cat that bits our market share using stolen intelligence properties from us! Sophisticated customer expectation with up-coming of new process that drive you crazy to shorten the product development cycle time. A typical product development start from Conceptual design to mature bug free product for delivery to customer aiming of a plug and play runs in less than 1.5 years!
We do not have any luxury anymore as ten years ago!

The spirit of Can Do goes in par with the typical Hong Kong People work eithics….
We have no resources like petroleum, land, water, nor heavy industrial back bone. We have only dynamic people who are having adaptive street smarts and energetic effort driving for better result. Our Education level is not the highest in Asia, fall behind Japan and Singapore. English is not as common and as proficient as Sinagpore, may be a bit better thah Japan and some part of China. The container harbour was once the biggest in the world on 2006 and 2nd behind Singapore in 2007, has already been overtaken by Shenzhen Yin Tian of China now. The airport is the world largest in term of cargoes tonnage in 2007, but in the process of renovation for better efficiency or will be tarnished as compared with Singapore or Frankfurt’s.

We have been named as world financial centers as New York, Tokyo and London.
China is supplying Hong Kong quietly and honesty in the past 50 years, we have fresh water supply from China in 1970, food stock and poultry were all imported from China.
When we have SARS in 2003, China shipped 20 millions of mask to Hong Kong by air in a couple of days When the Olympian Games came to an end all the gold medalist went to Hong Kong immediate the week after for demonstration show before their fans in Hong Kong. Blood is thicker than water. This is a way that we should contribute when China needs us…and this is one way to can show Can Do to maintain the glory of the Pearl of China.

The Can Do starts from a reform of our culture fro Traditional Confucian to these new ideas of independence and industrialization. We need to have to tell the other people that we can be better in order to maintain the position of job in a company, we have to show to our friend that we have achieved what we should have in term of economic achievement, social exposure, we are not loser in front of Giant and at we feel no fear in fighting with enermy for our national esteem.

Self esteem is one of the driver for Can Do, when you are facing with 1,000 people before the speech, you have to recall all your rehearsal and run though in your mind one again, make a deep berth and speak it out, watch out for the response and to be synchronized wah the audience.

Can do is a proactive slogan, that is a spirit, and of course nothing isn’t “Can do!” But it would help push the People to the limit on the psychological side to pursue for better result. And to offer customer satisfaction in our department of marketing! In my philosophy, Customer will buy from because of you first then your product!
It is not my word but thousand of successful marketing and management gurus.

It is a way to promote the righteous spirit of odor subordinate. And they will one day suing the same method for driving their colleagues and their subordinates.

The Can Do is not just a along now in our company but it has been transplanted as heart pulsar in every one’s heart of us in the Company.
This goes with 120% effort and we are sure that we are doing a lot more than 120% for some of our colleagues….

Now the US economy is dropping…. Leeman Brothers, AIG….

I often tell myself: It is always darkest before day dawn!

The best Roasted Goose

Some fact about roasted goose:

Left leg is better than the right, as I was told that the goose used to stand with the right leg.. and hence the left leg is tender and more tasteful!

Sham Tseng's roast goose is history since Hong Kong is nbot allowed to raise goose. Now, all the goose are imported from ShenZhen.

Yung Kee is famous, but three times out of four, you can not get the good goose, probably those good one are reserved by those movie stars and tycoons. The resaurant is too noisy and crowded, even the best goose will not trigger you taste buds.
House of Jasmine in Ocean Centre 401 is so far the best for goose. They open Jan 2008. The environment is very apprealing, sea view if you want. open air...if that is not too hot ...Autumn will be the best season for their goose...and a bottle of wine! On their other hand, they have charming beautiful people serving you...
Lokie and Grace are both great beauties, talkative, has sense of humour, and very good in servicing you! Larry, Henry and manager Polly are very good in treating you well...too!

Preserved Bean curb

Preserved Bean Curd
We can call this is some kind of Chinese Cheese! a Fermented or preserved bean curd. You can find jars of it in many Asian food groceries. There are a multitude of brands. This stuff comes in a jar, containing bean curd chunks shaped like cubes, immersed in a liquid base . Some of them have chili added and some do not. This stuff is definitely not suited for most American palates, and the mere sight and odor of it grosses most people out. Also, I have never seen it offered at any Chinese restaurant. That is a very good ingredient for deep fried Kang Kung, or a sauce for the clay pot Mutton serving hot pot.

I am afraid that can be one of the fussion food for Amercian and some European, as it has some of the special taste and palate like the fremented Swiss cheese. It really adds a lot of flavor. And I discover that this is a real good food when you want to clear your bowel, take wiht with plain porridge, two times a day, dinner is better. Within two weeks, your body will becoming lighter and fresher. Why, beacuse you reduce the amount of potient, reduce oily stuff, and porridge help to clean the bowel. it was best served with a plate of Fried egg with "Choi Po"!

Have any of you ever developed a fondness for this little known but wonderful condiment? If you have, is there a particular brand name that you prefer over the others... yes, Liu Ma Kee, I was told that is best and in fact, well, the most expensive one...This bottle is HKD29.00 in some market at Tsuen Wan, which is almost two times more expensive than other brand...try to explore more great favour starting from this Perserved bean curb!

Top 10 Luxury Brands in Asia

Subjugation Period
Hong Kong has gone through phases of economic development in the past 50 years as…after being invaded by the Japanese Ronjin during WW II. A lot of construction required man power. At same time, ten thousands of people were rushing across the border into Hong Kong in 50’s. There was an unpublished rule that once if you could reach Tai Po or south of it. You would be granted the right to stay in Hong Kong…!

These were the first few large batches of man power helping Hong Kong to establish an Electronics, building and construction industry in 60’-70s. Peoples were diligent, hard working and eager to learn or they could not be competitive as the local Hong Kong peoples. They were able to adapt to the fast growing pace and ever-changing society. They could easily transform themselves as chameleon does in the desert area for being treated as dim sum by snakes in camouflage, changing forms of business such as OEM, tool fabrication support for bigger factory, changing themselves to adapt new wages level that go par with the improving standard of living.20 years ago, Hong Kong started shifting the manufacturing faculties to China and now more than 95% f their factories are in China to enjoy the low manufacturing cost. And there is over 8 millions of working force running in Shenzhen for the Hong Kong companies now!

Start of money
Hong Kong’s industry was leap frog well entrenched growth of double digits of export in 70’s and 80’s every year. Siliconix, Motorola, EDL were some of the early semiconductor factories in the Kwun Tong and Kwai Fong area respective. They hired a lot of engineers, technicians, and operators to support the manufacturing operation. ASM was one of the most successful establishments in the 1975 to support the Electronics assembly automation! At that period, more and more people earned by starting numerous small and mid scale enterprises are in HK…More universities were being developed in terms number of enrolling student and set-up more ruminative package for more professional expertise in to provide better education for the higher management and engineering requirement of the commercial and industrial entrepreneurs. Speculated investor poured money into Real estate markers.
A lot of construction works was been carried out at that period of time. Heavy invested construction Cross harbor Tunnel was completed in 1972, first MTR mass transit system was completed in 1979. Central landmark of circular window and pillar-less Jardines House stood up right in front of the Queen’s Pier in 1970. Jardine House (Chinese: 怡和大廈), formerly known as Connaught Centre (康樂大廈), is an office tower in Hong Kong. The building is located at No.1 Connaught Place, Central on the Hong Kong Island. It is owned by Hongkong Land Limited, a subsidiary of Jardines. At the time of its completion in 1972, Jardine House was the tallest building in Hong Kong and in Asia in 1980.

Show off period
In the 80’s and 90’s people of Hong Kong are all having only one thing in their mind” Money”. Most of them is dreaming to be coming rich in one night… still can recalled than young students got crazy of Swatch collection and trade. They can queue at Swatch shop for 48 hours waiting for the limited Swatch one sales …especially those on St-valentines and Christmas special. Afterward, immediate sales can be made to others at 3-5X more!
Hong Kong was experienced the fastest growing economics at that time ; engineers are no longer eager to stay in one company, head hunter, job search, buy and sell stock are the things they involved party, directly or indirectly.

Fit it
HK people were proud of their wealth and be forgetful on the stock nightmare of 1973, 1987, 1997, 2003. Though, the significant influence some of the top 20% richest people does not have any hesitation to spend money on these extravagant items like Lamborghini, Porches, Rolex, Patek Philips, Mark Levinson, Rockport as Hong Kong People favourite buying list.

Mix and match
Free Newspaper is stuffing ads into our mind. The singers, movie stars and celebrities are in fact moulding youngster’s preference in brand selections
Group 18-40 is the 80% market of the consumer goods. 80% of the people using the branded stuffs are honest followers on those rich and famous in this small City. They feel being respected or can achieve certain kind of social satisfaction as consent from the snobs.

No question why you could see lot of Monogram hand bag could be found in the train… I have seen 5 Rolex Explorer II in MTR train Section, probably the largest number of Rolex in 10 square metres in the world!
So I never dare to ware these kind of Expensive cloths Amani, LV…on the other hand, I would prefer to custom made short and trousers…Which is the only way It can be fitted perfectly on my tiny short body grown out of proportions.

Way of life.
I am sick to see baggy jeans(賴屎褲), with heavy shinning Stainless steel chain linking between the jean and the pocket behind… wearing oversized T-shirt, ring on his tongue and eye lips, Tattoo on his bonny skeleton arms…carrying burning cigarettes? This is just rebelliousness on his thoughts and a demonstration to the public that they are of some difference only!
The way of life of most of Hong Kong people is typical Hong Kong, very Hong Kong…money minded, narrow minded and limited vision towards international politics. The major topics in the tea house of MTR are yesterday soap TV story endings…Who is going to marry to the diamond bachlor of the Lee’ family. However this the powerful generation that spend on these luxury brands
Who had such a carelessness being pictured at a love hotel by Apple’s paparazzi? How much they have earned from the stock market yesterday. What is the trend of PSP new games for young boys. How to date a China man in Shenzhen for some Hong Kong single ladies!

Asia top ten
